Blue / Orange received its world premiere at the National Theatre in 2000. Rapture’s production opened at Paisley Arts Centre on Friday, April 29 and closed at Dundee Rep Theatre on Saturday, June 18. Although the show performed at many high profile venues, Blue / Orange also visited many small Scottish community theatre venues during its run, including Skye, Ullapool and Mull.
The stage is set for a battle of wills between two doctors looking after a patient who believes himself to be the son of infamous dictator Idi Amin. As the drama unfolds, his story becomes unnervingly plausible. Combining drama with moments of comedy, this thriller reaches an exciting climax as the two doctors’ clash becomes more personal.
Prior to the tour Rapture’s Founder and Artistic Director, Michael Emans, said: “I am incredibly excited about touring the Scottish premiere of Blue / Orange. We have very high-profile, acclaimed actors on board, including Jimmy Chisholm, Greg Powrie and Christopher John Hall.
“This production will cement Rapture’s reputation as a quality Scottish touring company. When Blue / Orange premiered in London, the critics were unanimous in their praise – it’s fantastic entertainment for Scottish audiences, and we look forward to welcoming many members of local communities to our production.”
Rapture specialises in bringing new work to Scotland which has won acclaim elsewhere. Michael Emans strongly believes in ‘theatre for all’ – ensuring that even very small communities in Scotland have the opportunity to access quality theatre productions.
In 2000, Joe Penhall’s Blue / Orange received Best New Play awards from the London Evening Standard and the Critics’ Circle. In 2001 it received an Olivier Award for Best New play.
