Democracy
by Michael Frayn
Rapture are delighted to present the Scottish premiere of the hit play from the author of "Noises Off"
“Democracy” is set in West Germany in the late 1960s as the country tries to rebuild its ruined society and reputation after a period of civil unrest and economic stress.
The play offers a searing critique of a society in which the inability and unwillingness of different political and ideological factions to work together, results in implosion. The central themes are uncomfortably prescient in light of the cultural, political and social unease in Scotland and Britain today.
The play examines of the nature of political “spin” and of a political ideology built on, and eventually undermined by, political machinations and spin-doctoring; again, topical themes topical given the revelations plaguing recent British governments.
Featuring an emsemble cast this will be Rapture’s most ambitious project to date and will be an exciting fusion of both text and physical based theatre.
The project will preview at The Byre Theatre on Thursday 12th Febuary 2009 It will then run a further week and a half at the Byre Theatre.
The project will then transfer to Greenwich in London and then tour around Scotland .
