SHOO-BE-DO!
Or…How to Talk to Old People
With Dave Anderson
You may know Dave Anderson as the Bank Manager in City Lights, or Gregory’s Dad in Gregory’s Girl, but he started his career as a songwriter: his songs for The Steamie are being sung (somewhere) right now.
Encouraged by the success of Tir na nOg (“Best New Musical” – Edinburgh 2007), Dave has embarked on a series of new mini-musicals, this being the mini-est yet, having a cast of one, including the orchestra! The theme is his teenage years, which just happens to be the late ‘50’s, when Rock’n’Roll was King, and hair was, well, on his head. Expect hits (and forgotten classics) of the time, plus new songs of his own.
This is more than a trip down Memory Lane, though: Dave, in his raconteur’s hat, talks about the contrasts between life then and now, discusses the business of writing – and surviving the 21st Century.
Dave Anderson is one of Scotland’s national treasures, a true theatrical poet and one of Scotland’s prime entertainers and actors.
His latest show is part stand up, part cabaret, part musical theatre and 100% entertainment.
Rapture Theatre, Scotland’s foremost touring theatre company are delighted to be working with Dave on his latest show.
Opening at East Kilbride Arts Centre on Friday 29th April 2011, the show will tour through May and into June.
Dave is thrilled to be returning to touring. “I remember, with great fondness, previous tours with Wildcat and 7:84.This show with a clear emphasis on nostalgia and entertainment will be very popular with audience members.”
Dave’s show is co-produced with acclaimed theatre company Rapture and in association with the Arts Centre. Rapture’s Michael Emans says, “Dave is a national treasure and Rapture is delighted to be producing the show.” “ We are also grateful to the East Kilbride Arts Centre for its support”.
